I stayed up late reading Empire of Storms and woke up early this morning to finish it because it’s just that good of a book. Even though I knew exactly what was going to happen to the characters when I picked the book up again, I couldn’t help but feel like I had to keep going.
When I finished Empire of Storms I skipped Tower of Dawn and started straight into Kingdom of Ash, the last novel in the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas. Tower of Dawn is a necessary part of understanding Kingdom of Ash if it’s your first time reading the novels, and I actually recommend tandem reading them your first time through. That being said, this time around I was rereading for Aelin’s story and she isn’t included in Tower of Dawn. I also find the only parts of Tower of Dawn that were that interesting to me were the sections between Nesryn and Sartaq, not the romance between Yrene and Chaol.
Kingdom of Ash is the longest novel that Sarah J. Maas has ever published and the first time around it took me nearly three days to finish, especially since I found some sections so incredibly boring, however, since I was only reading Aelin’s story this time around it went far quicker. I started the reread only wanting to rediscover the love story of Aelin and Rowan but I found myself wanting to experience Lorcan and Elide’s story again as well (I did also stop to reread the very smutty scene between Dorian and Manon but that’s the only interesting spicy scene in the whole 1,000-page novel.) I didn’t finish the book today but knew with how much faster I was flying through it that I would finish it by the end of tomorrow.
