Are you someone that reads something once and then never reads it again or are you a chronic rereader? I tend to be a chronic rereader even though my To Be Read list seems to constantly be lengthening. Every time I go on Booktok (the reader’s side of TikTok) I find dozens of new books to add to my To Be Read but I can only read so many at a time! Something I love about rereading is how you notice details about characters, relationships, plot points, that weren’t as noticeable or important to you the first time around when you were just getting to know them and seeing the plot for the first time.
Today I finished Heir of Fire and moved on to Queen of Shadows in the Throne of Glass Series by Sarah J. Maas, devouring the books for the second time with little else on my mind. I stopped on occasion to drink water, eat food, and nap with my cat, but otherwise, I read.
During dinner, my mom put on Shadow in the Cloud starring Chloe Grace Moretz, which turned out to be one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen and we stopped watching with less than thirty minutes left still having no idea what the movie was about. The entirety of the movie was essentially watching Moretz in a gunner’s pit of a plane monologuing, shooting aliens and enemy planes, and arguing with a troupe of sexist assholes but by the end, we couldn’t make heads or tails of what this movie was trying to tell us. Was it an alien movie set in World War 2? Was it about a female aerial fighter? Was it just a way for sexist writers to write their true feelings and have it played on the big screen?
Do you want to guess what I did after we finished watching the world’s worst movie? I went back to my room and read because when I read I become so enamored with the imaginary creations of the author that I can do little else.
